    How to register a domain?

Welcome to GA.NU. We provide premium .ga.nu subdomains with fast provisioning and flexible DNS options. This guide will help you search, register, and activate your new domain, then get it resolving on the internet.

    Before you start

    You will need:

    • A GA.NU account and access to your email
    • A payment method accepted at checkout
    • The name you want to register (and a few backups in case your first choice is taken)

    Choose a name

Follow these basics when picking a .ga.nu name:

    • Allowed characters: a–z, 0–9, and hyphen
    • Length: 1 to 63 characters
    • Cannot start or end with a hyphen
    • Case-insensitive (MyName.ga.nu and myname.ga.nu are the same)
    • No spaces or special characters

    Examples:

    • Valid: acme.ga.nu, studio-42.ga.nu
    • Not valid: -start.ga.nu, end-.ga.nu, my name.ga.nu

Some names may be reserved or premium priced. Availability and pricing are shown during search.

    Register your .ga.nu domain

    1. Search for your name
    • Go to the GA.NU home page and use the search box
    • Review availability and price for your chosen name
    1. Add to cart
    • Select the registration term (for example, 1 year). Longer terms help prevent accidental expiration
    • Add the domain to your cart
    1. Configure domain settings
    • Contact details: confirm your account details for the domain owner record within GA.NU
    • DNS option:
      • Use GA.NU Managed DNS (recommended for a quick start), or
      • Use custom nameservers if available for your domain
    1. Review and pay
    • Confirm domain name, term, price, and DNS option
    • Apply any promo codes
    • Complete payment and wait for order confirmation
    1. Activation
    • Most .ga.nu registrations activate within minutes
    • You will receive a confirmation email when your domain is ready to manage

    Quick start example

Goal: Register acme.ga.nu and point it to a web server at 203.0.113.42 with a www alias.

    Steps:

    1. Register acme.ga.nu as described above and choose GA.NU Managed DNS
    2. Add DNS records:
    ; Zone: acme.ga.nu
@ A 203.0.113.42 ; root of the domain points to your server
www CNAME @ ; www.acme.ga.nu follows the root

    1. Save changes and wait for DNS to propagate (often minutes, up to 24 hours globally)
    2. Test in a browser: visit http://acme.ga.nu and http://www.acme.ga.nu
    3. Add HTTPS using your hosting provider or certificate tool once DNS resolves

    DNS setup options

    • GA.NU Managed DNS

      • Easiest way to start
      • Add A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, and other common records in the GA.NU dashboard
      • Changes usually take effect within minutes
    • External nameservers (if available)

      • Use your own DNS provider
      • Set custom nameservers for your domain in the GA.NU dashboard
      • Create records at your external provider; propagation may take longer depending on TTLs

    Tips for common records:

    • Website on a single IPv4: A record at @ to your server IP, CNAME www to @
    • Email hosting: add MX and SPF/DKIM/DMARC TXT records as directed by your mail provider
    • App platforms: many cloud hosts provide a target name; use a CNAME from www (or another subdomain) to the target

    Verify and test

    • DNS propagation: allow time for changes to be seen worldwide (usually minutes, up to 24 hours)
    • Clear local DNS cache or test with an external resolver (for example, using DNS tools) if you do not see updates
    • SSL: request or install a certificate once DNS is pointing to your host

    Renewals and ownership

    • Auto-renew: enable auto-renew in your GA.NU account to keep your domain active
    • Reminders: GA.NU will notify you before expiration at your account email
    • Expiry: if a domain expires, it may stop resolving and could eventually become available to others

Keep your account email current and enable two-factor authentication for security.

    Troubleshooting

    • Name is taken or reserved

      • Try a variation, add a short suffix, or choose a different keyword
    • Payment failed

      • Re-try checkout, use a different method, or contact your payment provider
    • Domain not resolving

      • Confirm DNS records are saved and correct
      • If using external nameservers, ensure they are properly set at GA.NU and authoritative at your DNS provider
      • Check for conflicting records (for example, both A and CNAME at the same label)
      • Allow additional time for DNS propagation and clear local cache
    • SSL certificate request fails

      • Ensure the domain resolves correctly and any validation records (TXT or CNAME) are added exactly as provided by your CA
