Domain Redirects
GA.NU allows you to redirect your subdomain to any website or URL. When someone visits your .ga.nu domain, they'll automatically be sent to your destination URL.
What is a Domain Redirect?
A domain redirect automatically sends visitors from your GA.NU subdomain to another website. For example, if you own mybrand.ga.nu, you can redirect it to https://www.mybusiness.com.
This is useful for:
- Short links β Use your GA.NU domain as a memorable shortcut to a longer URL
- Brand consistency β Point multiple domains to your main website
- Marketing campaigns β Create easy-to-remember links for promotions
- Portfolio links β Send visitors to your LinkedIn, GitHub, or personal site
Requirements
Domain redirects only work when your domain uses GA.NU DNS management. If you've set up custom nameservers, you'll need to switch back to GA.NU DNS before using redirects.
How to Set Up a Redirect
Go to your Dashboard and find the domain you want to redirect
Click "Manage" to open domain settings
Navigate to the Redirect tab
Enter your destination URL β This is where visitors will be sent (e.g.,
https://www.example.com)Choose redirect options:
- Redirect Type: Select 301 (permanent) or 302 (temporary)
- Forward Path: Keep the URL path when redirecting
- Forward Query: Keep URL parameters when redirecting
Enable the redirect and save your changes
Redirect Types Explained
301 Redirect (Permanent)
A 301 redirect tells search engines and browsers that your domain has permanently moved to the new location. Use this when:
- You want search engines to index the destination URL
- The redirect is meant to be long-term
- You're consolidating multiple domains to one website
302 Redirect (Temporary)
A 302 redirect indicates a temporary move. Use this when:
- The redirect might change in the future
- You're running a limited-time campaign
- You don't want search engines to update their indexes
Path and Query Forwarding
Forward Path
When enabled, the URL path is preserved during the redirect.
Example with Forward Path ON:
- Visitor goes to:
mybrand.ga.nu/products/shoes - Redirected to:
https://www.mybusiness.com/products/shoes
Example with Forward Path OFF:
- Visitor goes to:
mybrand.ga.nu/products/shoes - Redirected to:
https://www.mybusiness.com
Forward Query
When enabled, URL query parameters are preserved.
Example with Forward Query ON:
- Visitor goes to:
mybrand.ga.nu?ref=twitter&campaign=summer - Redirected to:
https://www.mybusiness.com?ref=twitter&campaign=summer
Example with Forward Query OFF:
- Visitor goes to:
mybrand.ga.nu?ref=twitter&campaign=summer - Redirected to:
https://www.mybusiness.com
Common Use Cases

Troubleshooting
"Redirect requires GA.NU DNS management"
You've enabled custom nameservers for this domain. To use redirects, go to DNS Settings and switch back to GA.NU managed DNS.
Redirect not working
- Changes may take a few minutes to propagate
- Clear your browser cache and try again
- Ensure the redirect is enabled (toggle is on)
- Verify the destination URL is correct and accessible
Getting a 404 error
The redirect may not be enabled or configured correctly. Check your domain settings to ensure the redirect is active.
Disabling a Redirect
To stop redirecting your domain:
- Go to domain settings
- Navigate to the Redirect tab
- Toggle the redirect off, or delete the redirect rule
Your domain will no longer redirect visitors. Note that cached redirects in browsers may persist briefly.
