Switching Back to GA.NU DNS
If you've been using custom nameservers and want to return to GA.NU's managed DNS, here's what you need to know.
Why Switch Back?
- Simpler management through one dashboard
- Automatic Cloudflare-powered performance
- No need to maintain DNS at another provider
- Easier troubleshooting with GA.NU support
How to Switch Back
- Go to your domain settings in the GA.NU dashboard
- Disable custom nameservers β Toggle off the custom nameservers option
- Reconfigure your DNS records β Add the records you need in GA.NU's DNS management
What Happens When You Switch Back
When you disable custom nameservers:
- GA.NU's nameservers become authoritative for your domain
- Any records at your previous provider stop working
- You need to recreate your DNS records in GA.NU's dashboard
Important: Your Records Don't Transfer
GA.NU cannot automatically copy DNS records from your previous provider. Before switching:
- Document all your current records at the other provider
- Note the types, names, and values of each record
- Recreate them in GA.NU after switching
Minimizing Downtime
To reduce disruption when switching:
- Lower TTL values at your current provider before switching (if possible)
- Have your record list ready to add quickly
- Switch during low-traffic periods
- Allow up to 48 hours for full propagation
After Switching
Once you've switched back and added your records:
- Test your website loads correctly
- Verify email is working if you use MX records
- Check any verification TXT records are in place
- Confirm subrecords (like
wwwormail) work as expected
