Transferring a Domain
You can transfer your .ga.nu domain to another user at any time. This guide explains how domain transfers work and the steps involved.
How Domain Transfer Works
Domain transfers use a secure token-based system:
- Current owner generates a transfer token
- Current owner shares the token with the recipient
- Recipient registers or logs into their GA.NU account
- Recipient pays for the domain and enters the transfer token
- Transfer completes β domain moves to new owner's account
Step 1: Disable Transfer Lock
By default, domains have transfer lock enabled for security. You must disable it before generating a transfer token.
- Go to your Dashboard
- Click on the domain you want to transfer
- Go to Domain Settings
- Find the Transfer Settings section
- Toggle off the Transfer Lock switch
Step 2: Generate a Transfer Token
Once the transfer lock is disabled:
- In the Transfer Settings section, click Generate Token
- A unique transfer token will be created
- Copy the token using the copy button
- Share this token securely with the recipient
Important notes about transfer tokens:
- Tokens are valid for 7 days from generation
- You can regenerate a new token at any time (this invalidates the old one)
- Keep the token secure β anyone with the token can accept the transfer
- The token is only shown once; copy it before navigating away
Step 3: Recipient Accepts the Transfer
The person receiving the domain needs to:
- Create a GA.NU account (or log in if they have one)
- Go to the Transfer page or use the transfer link you share
- Enter the transfer token you provided
- Complete payment for the domain registration
What Happens After Transfer
When a transfer is completed:
- The domain immediately moves to the new owner's account
- The new owner gains full control of DNS and settings
- Your original subscription is cancelled
- No refund is issued for remaining time on your subscription
- All DNS records are preserved during transfer
Transfer Lock
Transfer lock is a security feature that prevents unauthorized transfers:
- Enabled (default): Domain cannot be transferred
- Disabled: Domain can be transferred using a valid token
We recommend keeping transfer lock enabled unless you're actively planning a transfer.
